We have been working with Kaleb on potty training since early last fall. He quickly picked up how to go pee on the potty and was excited to be out of diapers before Christmas. He is even able to go all night without an accident in his big boy bed!
Going poop on the potty was another story! Kaleb would not go poop, not even with multiple incentives (candy, soda, toys)! He would instead quietly go off by himself and poop in his underwear. If you walked in on him, he would tell you go to away and wave you out of the room. His favorite places were corners and in the basement! I can't tell you how many times Dennis and I washed out a pair of poopy underwear in the toilet - AUGH so gross!!
We even made a special trip to Toys R Us to get a "poop on the toilet" present. He got to pick out anything in the store and as soon as he went poop on the toilet he got to play with the new toy. We put the toy up on the pots and pan rack we have hanging in our kitchen so that each time he was at the table eating he would see his present. Yeah, it didn't work. He would look at it and say that was his poop present and then 20 minutes later he would poop in his underwear!
Finally we went with the no pants approach - as soon as Kaleb got home from school we would take off his pants and underwear. While we realized this was a risky option for the carpet, we needed to do something to get out of poopy underwear. Within 2 days he was completely trained -it worked like magic! Of course it was a bit odd when Kaleb would stand up in his chair at the dinner table and his pee pee was right at table height!
